Life.... so far....

When I thought of having children... some things just don't cross your mind. Looking back over the years, just remembering what all we went through, how many other families go through the same kinds of things, only not as "families" but as single parents, and combined families.... I don't know how some do it. I would have never made it through everything without my wonderful husband and the support of our family and friends.
Lets see....  my second child's CHIARI TYPE 1 MALFORMATION was discovered when he was 12 and I was 3 months pregnant with our baby.... we spent days traveling back and forth to the Children's Hospital. He still has it. Since it's not a type 2 and not giving him problems.... they are just "watching" it.....
June of 2008 we went on vacation. My oldest was having bad headaches. His face swelled around his eyes, I thought maybe he had gotten sand in them... since we were at the beach. When we got home the doc. gave him meds for a sinus infection. Week later with the headaches still there they did a CT scan. (July 6th) The doc called and asked me to go to my back room and sit down.  AS IF THAT didn't already make me want to faint. BRAIN TUMOR. He had an MRI done the next day and Children's the day after that. On July 9th they did a biopsy. So on JULY 21... HIS 18th Birthday..... they said he had HYSTIOCYTOCIS. A rare blood disease that ate away his jaw and cheek bone area. They treated him with Chemo and steroids. AND since it was bone, (not organ or muscle) it grew back.
Now... this summer, 2010.... my oldest, now 20, was being himself, a nice guy, helping an elderly neighbor (85+) get a bat out of her house. Being the nice boy he was raised to be, was trying not to hurt it and let it go. YEP. IT BIT HIM AND FLEW AWAY. Did you know... EVEN if we had the dead bat....
you still get rabies shots??? Apparently BATS are the highest carrier of rabies, so he had to go through all the rabies shots. He said Chemo was easier and hurt less. The Rabies shots go by weight....he's 6'2'' and 240lbs.     SOMETIMES I WONDER.... WHY MY KIDS??? EVEN THOUGH I WOULDN'T WANT ANY CHILD TO GO THROUGH IT.....   BUT WHY MY KIDS???
